QuickDash 001: A (Mostly) Disappointing Start

Hello and welcome to the inaugural edition of QuickDash; the blog segment where I talk about what I want, when I want. Over the past few years, there have been various topics I wanted to write about, but I felt I didn’t have enough to say to justify a blog post. I would prefer to focus on a more quality over quantity with TwoDashTwo so I’m going to try writing blogs talking about a handful of topics of my choosing. Hopefully they’ll be more fulfilling than news posts that are only a couple of pages long.

An Incomplete Journey

Remember a while back when I reviewed the first season of Encouragement of Climb? I said that I loved the show and that I couldn’t wait for the second season during the Summer 2014 season? Well, there’s one problem: Crunchyroll only has the first episode available on their website. If you go to the show page, Crunchyroll has the following message:

“Future episodes of Encouragement of Climb Season 2 will be made available as soon as we are able to. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”

Judging from the wording, it sounds like Crunchyroll is having some kind legal issue with someone on the Japanese side of the series. It’s a shame, because Crunchyroll recently posted a news story regarding Encouragement of Climb Season 2 but all I could think while reading it was “Boy, I sure wish I could watch the rest of the series instead of just read about it.” Oh well. Hopefully Crunchyroll can straighten things out soon. And before anyone says it, yes I am aware there are other methods to watch the show, but I would prefer to not use them.

Everything Ends Eventually

Did you hear the Mysterious Girlfriend X magna just ended? Well, it did. The series is now over and I think I’m going to start reading the series on CrunchyRoll. When I reviewed the Mysterious Girlfriend X anime, I mentioned that I wanted them to make a second series. Now that the magna is done, hopefully a second season becomes a reality.

Speaking of things ending, I recently read a piece of cartoon news that made me personally sad. This past Saturday featured the final edition of Vortexx on the CW. This means that there are no more Saturday morning cartoons airing on network television. And that is a shame. I grew up watching cartoons on CBS, ABC, FOX and WB and can safely say that without though blocks of television, both TwoDashTwo and Mind Wanderer would not exist. It’s a shame children of today cannot experience the same joy I experienced every Saturday morning. I may expand on my thoughts in the future, but for now, I’m just going to pour one out for the Saturday morning cartoon.

And speaking of cartoons and things ending, I don’t get how Nickelodeon handles their schedule anymore. The season 2 finale of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles just aired this past Friday. You know when the season 3 premiere starts? This Friday. It makes me wonder why Nick didn’t just air the last three episodes of season 2 before the summer hiatus. It may be minor now, but if Nick keeps up these confusing scheduling decisions, TMNT may end up like Korra. Whether or not you like Legend of Korra, Nickelodeon screwed that show with their scheduling. Apparently Nick didn’t think that airing 7 episodes on TV over the span of 4 weeks during a slow period for TV with little advertising and no on demand replay would result in low ratings. Well now Korra is off TV and the final season starts this Friday and will only be available online. I hope for the sake of the fans that the final two season will at least be given proper home releases.

Buy It Before It’s Gone! …Oh wait.

Aniplex of America just announced that the following DVDs will be discontinued on October 31st:
-Blue Exorcist Vol. 1
-Blue Exorcist Vol. 2
-Blue Exorcist Vol. 4
-Durarara!! Part 2
-Durarara!! Part 3
-GURREN LAGANN The Movie -Childhood’s End- Limited Edition
-GURREN LAGANN The Movie -Childhood’s End- Regular Edition -GURREN LAGANN The Movie -The Lights in the Sky are Stars- Limited Edition

If you’re wondering why Blue Exorcist Vol. 3 and Durarara!! Part 1 aren’t on the list, it’s because they’ve already been discontinued. So if you were hoping to own either of those series complete on DVD, you’re out of luck. The good news is that all the shows and movies listed are still available in more complete sets. Just be prepared to pay Aniplex’s high prices.

Smash Is Coming!

I realize that this has been a mostly negative QuckDash, so let’s finish on a high note. Super Smash Bros for the 3DS comes out this Friday! After playing the demo that was released a couple of weeks ago, I can safely say that I am hyped for this game. I’ve been doing my best to avoid spoilers, but I unfortunately know most, if not all of the secret characters. And that’s a shame because there are at least two unannounced newcomers that I would have loved to been surprised with their appearance, but it’s too easy to see unwanted information on the internet and the surprise has now been ruined for me. Oh well, doesn’t mean I won’t enjoy it any less.
